Lamp A 77-year-old woman has been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in aserious condition with multiple fractures and a man, aged in his80s, suffered serious head, leg and chest injuries, according to anAmbulance Victoria spokesman.

The male was taken to Austin Hospital in a critical condition afterbeing treated at the scene.

Bell Street is closed in both directions between Edwin Street andBanksia Street.

Eastbound traffic along Bell Street is being diverted south alongWaterdale Road and then east along Banksia Street to Studley Roadand back on to Bell Street.

Westbound traffic is being diverted into Studley Road and westalong Banksia Street, into Waterdale Road and back on to BellStreet.

A police spokeswoman said the diversion were likely to remain untilabout 7pm in the traffic-heavy area.

NEW JERSEY - Extreme caution is urged when using lamps, lanterns, or torchlights containing lamp oils.

The staff at the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System(NJPIES) warns the public of the serious danger lamp oils poseespecially to young children. When accidentally taken by mouth,such lamp oils can enter the lungs causing pneumonia and evendeath.

Recently, a 3 year old toddler needed immediate emergency roomattention for ingesting lamp oil. The child drank the oil from alamp left on the familys picnic table. According to BruceRuck, PharmD. of NJPIES, It is very important to recognize thatmany of the lamps containing these oils are not child-resistant andmust be kept away from children. When not in use, store the lampsand extra oils, the same way you would store any chemical - Lockthem up and keep them out of the reach of children.

German designer Peter Buning loves shadows, and if you love themtoo, you will adore these lamps. There are three series of shadowlamps in his collection: Tripes, Virus and Sha-Do Lights.

1. Tripes Lights

The three-pointed star became famous, legend has it, when Paul andAdolf Daimler, owners of Mercedes-Benz Inc., chose the star as asymbol for their company in honor of thier father. GottliebDaimler, the locomotion engineer, used the symbol of thethree-pointed star on his stationery.

The Tripes Light is made in two sizes, in a 6-inch diameter and a39-inch diameter. The radius of the shadow depends on the diameterof the lamp, the position of the lamp on the wall or floor, and thearchitectural variations in the light's environment. 2. Virus Lights

Pretty ball-shaped lamps, globes of living cells with a virus cellin the center cast honeycomb shadows in wider concentric circles asthey get progressively further from the lamps. The Virus Lights,each about 6 inches in diameter, can be used as table lamps orplaced directly on the floor. Various combinations will reflectdifferently.

3. Sha-Do Lights

The Sha-Do Lights can cast up to nine feet of shadows across wallsor ceilings and, because you can adjust the size of the lamp shade,you can adjust the size of the shadows. The lamp shades areavailable in several patterns, all creating intricate designs.Adding one or two more lamps to the wall or ceiling make somereally interesting patterns. Taipei, Aug. 5, 2008 (CENS)--Taiwan government`senergy-conservation policy will give a big boost to the island`senergy-saving lamp industry, in which many manufacturers haveplanned to begin volume production or sheer shipment some time thisquarter.

The Executive Yuan, Taiwan`s Cabinet, recently announced it wouldreplace all the island`s incandescent-type traffic lights with LED(light emitting diode) lamps in three years, and replace all theincandescent lamps currently serving throughout the island withenergy-saving lamps in four years.

Industry watchers estimate local lamp-makers including ChinaElectrical Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Delta Electronics Inc., Lite-OnIT Corp., Topco Technologies Corp. and Willypower Optronics Corp.to be the primary beneficiaries of the energy policy.

They believe energy-saving lamps will first see businessopportunities generated by the policy, which they say will fuelmassive use of the lamps. China Electrical, currently Taiwan`s No.1lamp maker, pointed out that the government policy would bringabout huge market potential for energy-saving lighting fixtures andT5 fluorescent tubes. The uses of LED lamps, they added, wouldfurther help reduce energy consumption and CO2-gas emission.

In line with the policy, the lamp maker plans to branch intoproduction of T5 lamps using its cold cathode fluorescent lamp(CCFL) technology. An automated production line calling forNT$300-400 million (US$10-13 million at US$1:NT$30) is on thedrawing board.

Industry watchers estimate energy-saving lamps to be one of ChinaElectrical`s major revenue earners this year.

Lite-On has acquired Philips` patented technology for makingenergy-saving lamps and entered into alliance with the heavyweightlamp maker to produce the lamps by becoming its contract supplier.

Lite-On has delivered its lamps to major customers includingPhilips for verifications. The company`s factory in Zhenjiang ofthe mainland Chinese province of Jiangsu will begin volumeproduction of the lamps in September and its factory in Indonesia,whose output capacity is much bigger, will enter into volumeproduction in July next year.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese industry watchers project the LED market totake off when LED starts entering into roadway lights and householdlights in a big way. They think that LED has lower penetration inroadway-light market than in traffic-light market. They estimatelocal LED roadway-light industry to begin producing results onlywhen all the lights on the island are changed to LED types. Theyadd LED can make foray into household-lighting market only when thelamp`s price runs close to that of energy-saving lamp.

forklift A Woodstock man is lucky to be alive after pinning himself with a forklift. Around 8 o'clock Tuesday morning police got the call about an incident at a recycling depot on Norwich Avenue in Woodstock. A 60 year old man was using a forklift, he got out, walked behind it, and it rolled forward pinning him up against a rack. He was taken to Woodstock General Hospital to be treated for a broken leg.

A flag person is needed whenever the forklift will disrupt or interfere with traffic or where the public cannot be kept out and pedestrian traffic has to be directed.Taking a forklift into an area open to the public without these precautions in place is at the risk of being fined for having an unregistered vehicle on the road (the same as having an unregistered car on the road).
